In her blog, journalist Carolyn Evans-Hammond points out how undervalued is the Cahors region: "Malbec dominates the “black” blended wines of this appellation—Malbec
being the same blackberry-scented grape with which Argentina is making
a name for itself. But in Cahors, the flavour tends to be less fruit-forward and more meaty-floral."
She tasted two great Cahors wines: Château Pineraie 2005 and Château de Gaudou 2005. According to Carolyn, "These warming wines from the south are enough to melt the edge off this seriously cold Toronto winter. That alone is reason to uncork a bottle or two."
