Journalist Sherwin Lao, from
Manila Standard Today Filipino newspaper, wrote a series of articles on the various varietals around the world.
Malbec is one of them.
"Malbec (Red)—from the Bordeaux region in France. Known traditionally as a mere “mixer” varietal to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in Bordeaux, but a stellar wine on its own or as majority varietal in Southwestern France particularly in Cahors. Continents away from France, in Argentina, Malbec is a thriving varietal in this New World wine producer. Malbec as a solo varietal is also Argentina’s biggest contribution to the wine world, almost like the Shiraz is to Australia. Malbec can be plummy, floral, minerally, and silky in texture, but Argentinian wines has made heavy oaked versions that surprisingly very good as well."
